Google reviews of Kinosaki Onsen Higashiyamasou

The hotel is a close walk from the station and the staff are all very courteous and friendly. The rooms are a little dated and many of them seem to be smoking rooms. They have a private onsen which can booked in 45 minute blocks however it is quite small. Their public onsen is opened 24hours and is segregated by gender.

The meal service is excellent. On the first night you are asked to pick a time for your breakfast, dinner and time for the private onsen. Make sure you are on time because they are prompt, and the food is amazing. The portions are extremely generous and the variety is incredible. The only disadvantage to this setup is that you are usually so stuffed all day you don't get the chance to try any other restaurants in town.

They provide everyone with a Yukata (robe) which you can use to walk around town and visit the onsens. Women are given a ticket for a rental of a more formal outfit but the many accessories involved make it impractical for multiple onsen visits. The staff will also help you put it on if you ask. I'd recommend using the free one for onsen visits and the formal one for photos and a stroll around town.

They are very close to all the shops and the train station, and I highly recommend a trip to the Sea of Japan - one train stop by the JR line followed by a long walk or a bus ride. We opted for the walk which gave us the ability to walk through some real cool rice fields and see the town. When we got to the beach it was completely empty and felt almost like a private beach. There are some real amazing caves that make for a great picture if you hop the small wall and walk over the gravel and rocks to find them. We went on a Tuesday at noon and there were no open restaurants.

Toyooka is also a train stop away and they are famous for their handbags. The city itself is a little dystopian feeling, but if you are in the market for quality leather it might be worth a visit. It also gives you the chance to see how a real Japanese (non-tourist) city feels.

Overall the experience was amazing, and we would have loved to have stayed longer!

I am deeply appreciative of the hospitality of the staff at Higasiyama the moment I stepped in till the moment I checked out. As a foreigner, it was somewhat difficult trying to communicate with staff who had a basic understanding of the English language and spoke predominantly in Japanese. I did my best with the rudimentary Japanese that I had picked up over the last few months and the staff met me halfway. This was important to picking up key details, such as a fireworks display every night at 9pm for a particular period in August, and how to eat the different foods presented during breakfast and dinner.

Upon checking in, there are three pieces of information that you will need to decide on: 1) Your breakfast timing, 2) Your dinner timing, and 3) the time you want to reserve for the private onsen on the third floor. With the above two timings, the staff will enter your room and prepare your room for the meals, such as wiping the table, setting down the cutlery, and the trays of food. After the dinner, staff will come to clear the dishes, and also take out the futons to prepare for bed. I have so much admiration for the staff who would complete their tasks methodically.

I stayed here for 2 nights and the 2 dinners and breakfasts I was served were pretty good. Breakfasts would feature tofu and grilled fish with several other side dishes. Dinners on the other hand featured raw Matsuba crab and shabu Tajima beef. The Tajima beef were so tender.

You also get a pass to the seven onsens in the town for the duration of your stay, so this was a pretty great perk to explore the onsen towns.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for your stay in Kinosaki Onsen town.
