Japanese Heritage and Kitamae Ship Port "Moroyose Port" Course (Moroyose Short Course)

Moroyose Port is a famous scenic spot that has been written about in classic Japanese poems, such as Kokin Rokujo and Kagero Nikki among others since ancient times. This course also explores the history and culture of kitamae, which flourished as a "wind & tide waiting port" in the Edo era.

- 1) Iyonaga Shrine
- This shinto shrine is a place to pray for safe voyage. There is a pair of lanterns on both sides of the stone steps up to the shrine and a tamagaki (a fence surrounding a sacred area) around the shrine's grounds.
- 2) Hiyoriyama Mountain
- On Hiyoriyama Mountain, a part of the joyato (a light that burns all night) is engraved with "joto" and "sho-kaisendonya-chu (Moroyose shipping agent)".
- 3) Kitamae Ship Mooring Pile Remains
- These are the dome-shaped rocks, as well as the round and square holes in the rocks at the port.
- 4) Yasaka Shrine Office
- Boat ema devoted to Iyonaga Shrine by the Kitamae ship owners are displayed here to preserve their colors.
- 5) Shokokusan Ryumanji Temple
- A temple of the Soto sect that provides a memorial for sailors and others of shipwrecks. Among the Zen dojos, it was known nationwide as the Oni (demon) Dojo of Hokuba (Northern Tajima).
- 6) Moroyose Main Village Center
- Various ancestors and historical materials are on display here.
